Jacob got up early in the morning and took the stone that he had placed under his head. He stood it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it.
This is a photo of the alter during a service. The emphasis of the service was the building of Christian community. At the begining of the service there was nothing here. After the sermon a wooden door was placed on the floor to protect it and then people were invited to collect a brick from the corners of the room and come and build the altar.
Obviously there are several practical considerations. Each corner needed someone there who was able to direct the placement of bricks. There was also a predetermined height of 10 bricks. Then another wooden door was placed on the top and the altar dressed for communion.
A very effective way of symbolising that we are all in communion with one another and Christ.
