It is a widely held belief that the world is ‘going to hell in a handcart’.  We are constantly baraged with stories of gun crime and violent attacks.  The BBC is alerting us to the UK government’s plan to produce crime ‘league tables’ plotted on an online map.  This is since the publication of the Casey Report that proudly declares these statistics based upon ‘public belief’.

At this point you are probably wondering what does this have to do with a blog about Christianity?  Here’s my question – why are we not there?  Our recent history is steeped in examples throughout history of how the Gospel has changed the lives of whole areas.  From William Booth or the Tractarians through to Martin Luther King, Jesus church has had something to offer to change the face of socety.  If we are not called to be a vehicle of salvation through social change then what are we here for?  The Gospel is transformative!  We are not just works or faith we are both.  Public perception would seem to be that we are neither.
